I pay taxes. I pay a lot of taxes. I'm happy to pay those taxes as long as I can be guaranteed they're are going to fund; schools, highways, SSI, etc. It's the mismangement of the government's funding I'm appalled at.
Maybe it's the new parent in me or the inherent reactionist talking, but when I see this, and then statistics like, this, this, this and this.............it makes me wonder who's the actual state sponsor of terrorism.
Posted by kerry at May 2, 2003 01:29 PMIsrael has never been the aggressor in any disputes with Arabs. They have always been attacked and responded as such. I agree they do have a right wing government in place now, and we might not agree with every action the state takes. But that could be said about any state in the world, not just Israel. Being the only democracy in the middle east does make israel an ally of the US, no matter which party is in power. So it is the US's obligation to stand up for a country smaller than florida in such a vast arab land. keep in mind, the palestinians did not want a state so bad when jordan, syria and egypt controlled the lands now in question. but the palestinians should have their own land with their own borders, once israel will be safe in that scenario. I just think that jews were hated for more than 1500 years all over europe and the world, and just like blacks in america, a societal undertone can't be lost so easily. blacks still see racism 150 years after slavery. I don't even think the world realizes how imbedded the notion is. remember, it wasn't until the last 60 years that the catholic church stopped blaming the jews for killing jesus....we have a long way to go.
Thank you, and keep up the god work. love the site.
