*IF* the story about the Iraqi being beaten to death for not removing the picture of al Sadr from his car is in fact true, I hope the military tries the soldiers. War is never an excuse for those types of acts.

You know .. as much as it sucks to say .. 500 combat deaths in one year is not too bad. The body count is extremely low compared to other wars. We lost thousands and thousands of troops in WWII over 4 years. Zero combat deaths would be sweet, but that'd be dependent upon either A: not going to war or B: one side playing nice and surrending immediately.

Isn't al Sadr proving the point that pulling out of Iraq would be stupid? Isn't he proving the point that it would just be a matter of time before some idiot with a militia would try to usurp authority illegally? Isn't the violence in Fallujah also proving the same point?

Woodward's book - Depends on how you look at it. I think that President Bush truly demonstrated leadership by doing something that should have been done at some point in the past 20 or so years. I am not sure that I agree that the President needs to consult with all of his cabinet. I think that President Bush demonstrated courage and openness by agreeing to spend the time with Woodward even though it was likely the book would be used by his opponents to defeat him in November. I do not believe that Senator Kerry would demonstrate the same courage, conviction, and leadership as President of the USA that I have seen from President Bush. But that's just my opinion.
