......are not opposing values.

Posted by: Chris Lehmann at July 27, 2004 05:55 AMYou know, the whole Lewinsky thing made me dislike a lot about Bill Clinton, but his speech tonight reminded me of what drew me to him in the first place. He is far better at articulating the basic aspirations of Americans in their lives and in the world than just about anyone I've heard speak in my lifetime. Reagan had a way of articulating our larger-than-life desires but Clinton can really put the basics into words. Man, I miss him.
Gore and Carter were really great too. I liked the way all three of them were able to make really potent smackdowns on the failures and overreachings of the current administration while tempering what they said with positive alternatives so as not to just sound nasty and bitter. And Gore made jokes! Bless his heart, they sounded scripted as hell, but they were funny.
Only bad note for me was Hillary. God, I want to like her but something about her voice and way of speaking grates on my very last nerve.
I've been waiting so long for people to appeal to our common values again. It's about damn time. I just hope that enough people listen.
Posted by: Colleen at July 27, 2004 07:16 AMhe can speak to policies and issues from yesterday with the same eloquence and passion he had when he was in office. his ability to deeply understand and care about the things that affect the voters is his most enduring trait. I miss seeing a president talk about the issues as if he not only understands them but cares about them as well.
on to the debates?
