Do not despair. “Democrats are now emphatically the minority party. This doesn't mean we give up; it means we take a page from the Republican playbook, refining and relentlessly pushing a vision of our own. We must rededicate ourselves to the urban core.” The editors over at THE STRANGER have some advice for Dems on what we need to do to win the presidency. Embrace our base! Divisive? You Betcha. Citizens of the Urban Archipelago the time has come to fight fire with fire. Why must we allow the Repugs to continue to frame this debate? We urbanites are the majority and it’s time to TAKE BACK OUR COUNTRY!
What happened to our progressive values? Where they went, and why—and how they might come back. “Today the Republican Party is not the right wing of anything; it is a band of violent radical reactionaries preaching medieval totalitarian bigotry. And Christianity as currently preached and practiced in Middle America is virtually Satan, by the standards of anyone who strives to follow the teachings of Jesus. We can hope that the terrorized will begin to come back from the darkness of the churches where they huddle, to look at the clear world outside…..our only option now is to hope that they wake up before the nation, and the globe, are irrevocably destroyed.” AMEN BROTHER! TELL IT! TELL IT! Can I get a WITNESS?!
We won. You just don’t know it yet. In other words: Good Things Come to Those Who Wait. “A disastrous second Bush term combined with the growing power of the cities. The trends are in our favor. Faith eked out a win over reality last week, but give it four years. Reality will bite back. In that, at least, we can all have faith.”
Dare we hope? This from THE ECONOMIST. Although Bush’s election seems like a triumph for the religious right, this article says, ” It may look like that, but liberals should think again before despairing.” The time has come, People. Tax the churches! Tax the churches! That’s all I’m sayin’.
Keep Checking in! Because today there are 395 pages of photos on (the new, improved, quick-loading!) SorryEverybody.com. Plus T-shirts, buttons and lunchboxes! And since imitation IS the highest form of flattery, these yokels are imitating this website (and very poorly I might add). These are some very scarey looking mofos. (Insert obligatory dental hygiene comment here.) Okay now everybody, in your best Monty Python British accent, say it with me, “Run away! Run away!”
Sometimes the truth IS funny. Or at least we have to find ways to make it entertaining. Look at it this way, The Daily Show has some awesome material for the next four years! You just can’t make this shit up, right? And oh yea, some more hilarious T-shirts – lots of Baynham - on this site! Go ahead - laugh! It's good for you.
Posted by lulu at November 14, 2004 10:04 AM | TrackBackIn response to your article posted, "Sorry...", sorry for what? For running a candidate without an original idea? For playing it safe when you should have taken a stand?
You should take pride in the fact that a Dem empty suit got so many votes.
Think of it this way, I believe Kerry received many of his votes from people disatisfied with Bush, not because they were excited about Kerry.
If you are going to blame middle America, blame it on the people in Iowa who put Kerry on the ballot.
Visit the website. It explains what the apology is for.

"America proudly re-appointed her reckless, incompetent and corrupt government. How much of America? Fifty-two percent. The rest of us are aghast and dismayed."
This is why they are giving the forum (as stated on the website
But the choice in this election was not apples and oranges, it was Granny Smith to Washington Red.
CB a lone voice of reason? Uh-oh...
But he's right. More of you voted against Bush than for Kerry. Whereas I voted against Kerry not for Bush. I agree with CB's analogy of the choice between Bush and Kerry. Especially given that Kerry only became anti-Iraq when it was politically necessitated. From a social perspective Bush is fairly liberal as demonstrated by NCLB (what self-respecting conservative would really favor the federal government mandating education standards?). One is pro-choice, the other pro-life, but in many ways they said the same thing (against abortion, prevent abortion by education and adoption, blah .. blah .. blah). Both are against gay marriage but for civil unions, except that one wants an amendment and the other doesn't.
You can win in 2008. You can win by finding one of your moderate voices who can draw guys like me that are for fiscal conservatives, social moderates, and moral conservatives. You can't win with another empty suit.
Posted by: Andy at November 16, 2004 06:04 AMOH yeah... and you won't win if you continue to insult my faith and my core beliefs. It won't matter who you put up for your candidate if you have guys like Michael Moore running off the mouth about "closed minded conservative Christian rednecks." And I think the left is smart enough to find a candidate that will spend the next four years shaping themselves to play lip service to the values voter. And Hillary is the first person that comes to mind. She's not likely to vote in any senate vote that can be used to define her as a moral or social liberal. She'll calculate every vote and every speech and every action to be as middle of the road as possible hoping that we'll forget about the so..c.i.a.l.i.s.m of HillaryCare plan.
