Ah, nothing beats the non-stop Nixon family reunion, where the convicted staffers regroup as apologists to condemn the "traitor". MSNBC had a lock on the slew of em last night. From Alexander Haig through Chuck Colson with a special slobbering cameo from G. Gordon Liddy.
The shining moment on Scarborough Country was Monica Crowely, where in the span of just a few minutes, in an attempt to support Buchannan, she managed to fully contradict him regarding the "conspiracy" to unseat the president.
BUCHANAN: But let me say this. The people that went after Richard Nixon day in and day out to use anything to bring him down hated him long before Watergate. They were outraged over the victory Nixon won, 49 states. He had beaten the candidate of the establishment, McGovern. And they were doing anything to bring him down. And they didn‘t give a damn what would happen in Vietnam as a consequence of that.
(...)CROWLEY: His second mistake was a failure to understand that the ground beneath him was shifting, that investigative reporting was coming into its own, that there was this countercultural revolution that was happening. The political ground was shifting beyond him. And it was—that was happening so fast, it was beyond even Nixon‘s visionary mind to grasp at the moment.
Don't these people ever listen to themselves? You can't be the "establishment" and a "countercultural revolution" at the same time. McGovern lost to the incumbent by a significant margin. There was a grand jury running in parallel to the Washington Post investigation, which of these was the establishment and which the revolution?

If they did, they might realize what a shameful spectacle it is to parade CONVICTED WATERGATE FELONS G. Gordon Liddy and Chuck Colson, and racist xenophobe Pat Buchanan, in front of the cameras so they can accuse one of the people responsible for exposing it of behaving unethically. They might realize that the only forum these cretins deserve is preaching to the cockroaches and worms under their respective rocks.
Sadly, introspection isn't a talking point.
As for Mark Felt, good for him. Whatever his motivations were, he helped end the worst case of presidential corruption since the Teapot Dome scandal. He should consider it a badge of honor to be attacked by these criminals.
If only our generation had a Deep Throat of our own.

Deep Throat (the most famous anonymous source EVER) reveals himself.
Coincidence?
Posted by: Chris W. at June 2, 2005 09:23 AMMaybe. Daniel Shore was on Hardball last night and spanked Buchanan hard on his criticism of anonymous (see: verifiable) sources. Pat just kept ranting about Cambodia. Odd that the Novak vs Plame issue wasn't broached.
