Reform Candidate

reform n 1: a change for the better as a result of correcting abuses; "justice was for sale before the reform of the law courts" 2: a campaign aimed to correct abuses or malpractices; "the reforms he proposed were too radical for the politicians"

Is Chris Bell a "Reform Candidate"?

H.L. Mencken said "Under democracy, one party always devotes its chief energies to trying to prove that the other party is unfit to rule -and both commonly succeed, and are right."

Chris Bell appears to be trying to prove Mencken wrong and Texas needs him to be successful. The upcoming election will be fraught with vitrolic rhetoric and empty promises. We need someone in Austin who's focused on the issues important to Texas more than a platform or a specific agenda of party talking points. We can't afford to remain complacent and expect Austin to heal itself on our behalf.

Mencken also said "I believe that all government is evil, and that trying to improve it is largely a waste of time."

If our government was truly of the people and by the people, this wouldn't ring as true. Texas needs Texans focusing on the needs of Texans, not making sacrifices to the benefit of a party. Let the partisan bickering be white noise and pay attention to who's talking about your issues.

It's up to us, the voters. We get what we vote for.
