Fox Invades Hen House

Naturally, when the news of the planned sale of our nation's ports operations to a UAE government broke, the instinctive reaction, after the initial shock of course, is to joke about it some.

You might ask;

What's next, David Duke as president of the NAACP, David Irving chairing the ADL... too ludicrious?

How about an extreme right-wing anti-gay Baptist preacher, who's been known to loudly insert his voice into Supreme Court nominations, as an appointee to the Presidential Advisory Council on HIV/AIDS?

Shore nuff.

One of the five new appointees to the Presidential Advisory Council on HIV/AIDS is a conservative Baptist minister who advocates a constitutional amendment to ban same-sex marriage, the Washington Blade reported Friday.

Herbert Lusk, a former Philadelphia Eagles football star and current pastor of Philadelphia's Exodus Baptist Church, was named to the presidential AIDS advisory panel, also known as PACHA.

Although Lusk has no background in HIV/AIDS policy, he does fit the mould of Bush's conservative Christian base and faith-based funding agenda.

thx Peter

The apple does not fall far from the tree
"Monterey County District Attorney Dean D. Flippo announced that on October 23, 2002 , defendant Herbert Lusk, Sr., age 73, pled guilty to five (5) felony counts: three counts of grand theft, one court of forgery, and one count of filing a false tax return. Guilty pleas were taken by the Honorable John Phillips, Judge of the Superior Court of California, County of Monterey.
The case arose from the defendant’s misuse of public monies received from the California Department of Education. The defendant was the director of a non-profit corporation which conducted a state subsidized child care program known as “Operation Shoe Strings”, in Seaside . The child care program was conducted at the defendant’s church of which he was the pastor."
To whom much has been given much is required
I remember the shock in the christian community when this happened. I live here. The Lusk family is still vocal here.
