All in the Family, Stossel-style

Well, there goes the sanctity of marriage.

Instead of tackling the critical blow to science as Bush vetos funding stem cell research, debating the ripple effect of the violence, chaos and controversy in the Middle East or decrying the loss of innocent lives in Iraq, John Stossel's got bigger fish to fry. The defense of cousin lovin'.

I'd always thought marrying a blood relative as close as a cousin was immoral, and certainly risky if you plan to have kids. Conventional wisdom says only primitive people who live in isolated places marry cousins. It leads to stupid children. But that's a myth.

Something tells me John's got a family reunion comin' up and someone's got some splainin' to do...

Dear John:

Queen Victoria's hemophilia mutation helped decimate the royal families of Europe and was one of the key factors leading to the Russian Revolution and the rise of the Soviet Union. The next time you want to argue that marrying a cousin is basically harmless, you might want to consider avoiding using her as supporting evidence. Just a thought.
