Why the fawning?

Rudy, what's with your infatuation with the French President?

Turns out, Giuliani recently read Sarkozy's book, "Testimony: France in the Twenty-first Century," and thinks very highly of the Gaullist.

So much so, actually, that Rudy confessed at the end of his town hall meeting this morning that he's having a "recurring dream" about the man Rudy biographer/enthusiast Fred Siegel dubbed "The French Rudy."

"Sarkozy is on this airplane and he's flying from France to the United States," Giuliani explains, and "he's thinking about these American principles that he can put to use in France."

"Then I see another airplane crossing it over the mid-Atlantic," Giuliani continues, "and there are three people on the airplane and they're waving at him. They're going from the United States to France -- Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama and John Edwards. And they're trying to figure out how to take the principles in France that haven't worked and how to bring them here to the United States."

Seems odd, now don't it?

PARIS (Reuters) - French President Nicolas Sarkozy and his wife Cecilia are separating, the president's office said in a terse statement on Thursday, ending rampant speculation about the state of their 11-year old marriage.

"Cecilia and Nicolas Sarkozy have announced their separation by mutual consent. They will not be making any comment," the statement said, giving no further information.

The French media reported earlier this week that the pair secretly saw a judge on Monday to formalise their split, but some experts have said Sarkozy cannot legally get divorced because as president he has immunity from all judicial actions.

(...)

They met in 1984 when Sarkozy, serving as a local mayor, officiated over her first marriage to a famous TV presenter. Sarkozy said he fell in love with Cecilia, a former model, almost immediately and he swiftly befriended the married couple.

Cecilia had two children in rapid succession but just five years later left her husband for Sarkozy, who was himself married. After securing their respective divorces they finally wed in 1996 and have a 10-year old son together.

Ah, I get it... they're both posturing conservatives with a sordid past when it comes to relationships. They've got mutual interests and lots to talk about. Brothers in arms, really.
