Weather Update

I wanted a snow day, not two ice days!

It's not a true snow day when:
1. you have to work.
2. work has to be done over a 40kbps dialup.
3. you have a projectile vomitting 11 month old.
4. you can't go play in the weather.

Interesting article in The Atlantic

Interesting article in The Atlantic this month on being introverted. Being the quintessential example of an INTJ, I went digging around to see how applicable all of this "self analysis" truly is........and found this quote to be the best summation and reinforcement that this is my personality type.

"Do not expect INTJs to actually care about how you view them. They already know that they are arrogant bastards with a morbid sense of humor. Telling them the obvious accomplishes nothing."

Have a nice day.

'War'

'War' commentary heard this morning on CNN, paraphrased;

"The millions of people who protested on Saturday were not a reflection of the real American opinion, but simply extremists, the loose nuts in the box and the far left fringe. If you want to see how America truly believes, look for a protest sign at the NASCAR Daytona 500 today."

Um WHAT? NASCAR's now the dipstick that allows us to measure whether our commitment is full enough? feh.

Are malapropisms contagious?

Plastic, duct tape and a wash cloth, is it just me or does this sound more like a laundry list for an kidnapper? Hype hype hype.............and one reassuring smack down for justice.

Driving home last night, I was doing a little basic math in my head, after listening to a commentary on the swiftly rising cost of higher education......then this morning I encountered a related article by Ted Rall..........
What if:
We took an flat dollar amount for an individual to complete an undergraduate through masters program ($100,000.00) divide that in the "yet to be allotted" estimated amount Iraq's going to cost us ($220 billion) and earmark the same type of investment into our high school graduates? We could fund the degrees of 2.2 million students and then turn around and apply the same logic to the cost of Afghanistan ($37 billion) and the approximated cost of sustaining Iraq ($15 billion per year). In under ten years, what do you suppose the return on that investment would be? No student loans or massive debt for wage earners....................just a thought. Too liberal? Fine, require two labor years in the peace corps or another civil service type job in exchange. (fwiw: $100K is the same price tag as keeping a citizen incarcerated for 2 years............funded by tax payers)

Taxes

30 Helens* and one Greenspan agree...................vast tax cuts are a bad idea. It's pretty simply wouldn't you think...what taxpaying citizen in their right mind would run their household budget in this manner? Why then is it a good idea in government to voluntarily slide into the red and beef up spending, all while planning an unbugeted war?

Osaddama

Osama linked to Iraq?

If in fact, we mean what we say and we're going into Iraq for "regime change" and Osama regards Saddam as an infidel, would that not then, make the US and Osama on the same side of that issue? Granted, his primary focus is on the Iraqi people.....who are destined to experience some loss as we enforce democracy in the region. What if, though, it's all just one big self-replicating PR ruse to keep the tensions high and the reasoning for attack justified? Isn't this the same man who used to be wanted "Dead or Alive"? How are we doing with that? Looks like we're having the same success with the War on Terror that we've had with the War on Drugs.

Maybe we could just ship the Iraqis some duct tape and plastic sheeting to ward off the fallout from our depleted uranium tipped warheads. Or they could just "duck and cover".

update: apparently I'm not the only one reading between the lines.

It's important to improve on

It's important to improve on one's previous performance. How many "smart bombs" are going to be 100% accurate as they land in a city of ~5 million people? Surgical precision isn't going to be a term you see thrown around much, I wager.

All this talk about the

All this talk about the "Liberal Media". Could it be true? Could we possibly have an information cabal that seeks out the truth and fairly reports it to the masses? In this age of war and economic uncertainty it is a comfort to know that our major news outlets are focusing only on the news that affects the entire nation, ensuring that there's no additional fluff forced upon us to draw our attention away from the pending nightmare of war.

The uber-pundit of this liberal conspiracy has got to be Mr. O'Reilly. His focus on simply presenting the facts with no bias and treating all of his guests with the utmost respect should be an example to all his peers.

This Just In Washington DC

This Just In

Washington DC (Reuters) - Attorney General John Ashcroft, declared today, that in light of the governmental cut-backs, threats of war and unavoidable terror, all civil liberties would be indefinitely suspended. Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness will be rewritten to state, mandatory life, a Jeep Liberty and the ability to fruitlessly chase the American dream. "Sacrifices are a way of life now," Ashcroft stated, "Look at all of the instances in the bible where out of great sacrifice, great reward abounded." He then enhanced his speech with a diorama of Abraham's sacrifice of Isaac in a test from God, showing how important family values are and then going on to outline the hereditary impact he had on history by fathering both the lineages of the Isrealis as well as radical Muslim terrorists. "See, if it hadn't been for Abraham's need to procreate, we wouldn't have the holy war of Infinite Justice we have in front of us today," he went on to say. The accuracy of the presentation was then challenged when a reporter in the audience asked if it wasn't a lamb that was ultimately sacrificed in place of Isaac. Ashcroft responded with, "The lamb represents the American public, no further questions."
