Plus ca change, plus c’est le meme chose

Ironic, the biggest waste of governmental funding the incumbents could come up with and I'm silent on it here? I'm either in rapt amazement, stunned or in complete car wreck shock. Thus far I've been hesitant to articulate my thoughts on the level of disgust I'm feeling towards our pre-emptive measure in the gulf......until I found this prayer from Mr. Twain.

Lord our God, help us to tear their soldiers to bloody shreds with
our shells; help us to cover their smiling fields with the pale forms
of their patriot dead; help us to drown the thunder of the guns with
the shrieks of their wounded, writhing in pain; help us to lay waste
their humble homes with a hurricane of fire; help us to wring the
hearts of their unoffending widows with unavailing grief; help us to
turn them out roofless with their little children to wander
unfriended the wastes of their desolated land in rags and hunger and
thirst, sports of the sun flames of summer and the icy winds of
winter, broken in spirit, worn with travail, imploring Thee for the
refuge of the grave and denied it-for our sakes who adore Thee, Lord,
blast their hopes, blight their lives, protract their bitter
pilgrimage, make heavy their steps, water their way with their tears,
stain the white snow with the blood of their wounded feet! We ask it,
in the spirit of love, of Him Who is the Source of Love, and Who is
ever-faithful refuge and friend of all that are sore beset and seek
His aid with humble and contrite hearts. Amen.

-- Mark Twain

Good News

What a week! The house is now officially under contract and the rugrat isn't hugging the rug any more. Do they graduate directly to toddler or can they be called wobblers for awhile?

With much reluctance

When you position 250,000 troops in the Middle East over a period of six months, how much reluctance is there, really? I'm just not sure we're making the best use of our resources in this "age of terror". I fear for the safety of our troops and worry that their actions may some day be recorded, not as saviours and rescuers, but as invaders. While they pursue a goal set forth by the blind ambition of our un-elected leader we're still "free" to be just as petty as ever back home.

Here's hoping this is a quick and relatively painless endeavor.

Marriage

For all of the posturing on the sanctity of heterosexual marriage as an institution, could someone please explain to me, the way that's being demonstrated by the following replacements for quality prime-time programming?

- Joe Millionaire
- Married by America
- The Bachelor
- The Bachelorette
- Who Wants to Marry a Multi-Millionaire

I just can't seem to get my head wrapped around the dichotomy.

Bush-speak

At least it's not just me who thought the speech last week was not only scripted but completely lacking in real detail or even, quality questions from the press.

Who would believe our congress critters could be so petty? oh wait, nevermind.

KMFDM nails it.

Occasionally song lyrics capture precisely what you're feeling. Today's lyrics....

"Search & Destroy"

WILL WE CLOSE OUR EYES
WILL WE FALL FOR THOSE LIES
OR WILL WE MAKE THE CONCLUSION
THAT THIS LIFE'S A DELUSION

WILL WE DO WHAT WE'RE TOLD
'TIL THE DAY THAT WE'RE SOLD
OR WILL WE RAISE OUR VOICES
MAKE ALTERNATIVE CHOICES

WHAT'S UP

OUR SILENCE IS DEATH
WE SHALL RESIST THE VIOLENCE
AND WE'LL NEVER GIVE UP
ONLY DEATH IS SILENCE

ARE WE VICTIMS OR WINNERS
BELIEVERS OR SINNERS
DO WE SIT IN THE SADDLE
OR ARE WE JUST CATTLE

ARE WE WRETCHED OR BOLD
ARE WE GARBAGE OR GOLD
CAN WE MAKE THE RIGHT CALL
CAN WE CHANGE IT AT ALL

ACCEPTANCE IS SURRENDER
VILE AND VICIOUS SLANDER
WE DON'T WANT TO BE RULED
BY A HANDFUL OF FOOLS

Moment of Zen

Bush Logic

Tonight's speech was, IMO, a travesty. He said and told us, virtually nothing, even as staged as it was. The issue with this "format" is, by the time he's done rambling, you can't remember the question he's not answered.

For not yet having declared war, he's sure in love with the word peace. So much so, he regularly gets down on his knees and prays for peace to prevail. He's also, positive we'll prevail. I say, why bother with the praying?

The American people are "at the mercy of Saddam"? No, we have our own version, thank you.

I'm still at a loss as to what WMD does Saddam have, that we don't or what has he used, that we haven't......or haven't given him. What in his arsenal makes him a national (US) threat? If we know through "intellegence", he's not giving it all up in the name of saving his ass, why aren't we sharing that data with the inspectors. Oh yeah......if they don't find anything we get to bomb. silly rabbit.

All he wants is goodwill for the Iraqi people. This means that mass bombings for 24-48 hours is closely related to goodwill. (diety) help us. "Saddam is a 'bad man' and a threat to his people". NFS. Where did he get those biological weapons in the first place and wouldn't our bombs be perceived by some as.... a threat?

Tonight's best Bush-ing was the "North Korea is a regional issue,....... we're concerned about North Korea". I still think he's hoping they'll launch against California before they finish the energy crisis investigation.

Thank you Ralph Nader. You see, there truly is, no difference.

Those times when you can't for the life of you, get a word out of your head....and can't remember how to spell it? Google is fun. Tonight, mine was Koyaanisqatsi. Among the vast Google returns were,

satan's little book.
an ass-load of consonants.
iraqi history.
a fine use of the letter 'Q'.
